The 456th Guards Heavy Infantry Regiment is a longstanding regiment with a proud history of accomplishing goals no matter what the cost. Small in size, it makes up for it by being highly technologically and trainingly advanced and made up entirely of genetically-modified individuals.

In 2453, the Russian High Command saw the necessity for heavy units which would accomplish tasks normally causing an unacceptable casualty rate. The first official regiment was tasked alongside a field army as a test. The following disaster - the regiment being wiped out to a man - caused the heavy infantry program to cease, until it was discovered in 2454 that major tactical errors had caused the deaths. The General in charge had mistakenly overestimated their combat capabilities and had sent them out without any support.

Later field tests used fire teams supported by extremely heavy artillery bombardment. The tests were declared to be a success, and further production began.

In light of new tactics, the heavy infantry regiments were reformed as specialist units, and specific tactics were created around them.

In 2554, Russia still lacked large numbers of heavy infantry, due to the cost of training and equipping them. A project was undertaken with specific goals in mind, one of them to bring the total number of heavy infantry to 30,000.

The then-known as the 438th Infantry Regiment was the first, and last, creation of the project before funding was cancelled.

During the first battle of the new regiment, the 438th Infantry Regiment suffered casualties so extreme, that it was reduced to nothing more than a few scattered units.

However, the Russian High Command decreed that desperate times call for desperate solutions, and ordered that the remains of the 438th Infantry Regiment would be reformed into an elite "Guards" regiment formed of heavy infantry. The new regiment was the be called the 456th Guards Heavy Infantry Regiment

Russian Civil War

While Russia experienced several sporadic and unconnected outbursts of violence over a fifty year period, the 456th Guards Heavy Infantry Regiment served with distinction throughout that period. At that time, however, the specialised requirements for entry began to cause the casualties to slowly overtake the numbers of reinforcements. Russian High Command experimented with specialised clones, ones who were tougher and stronger than an ordinary human, who could turn off their own safeguards to be able to access their full power when absolutely needed. The reinforcement clones were hailed as a success, and slowly all members of the 456th were replaced with clones.

The process enabling them to access their full potential had one major disadvantage; while members of the 456th could tear apart an armoured vehicle with their bare hands, prolonged use caused permanent tissue damage.

Some people play the hero. Others play the faceless masses that do the actual fighting.

–Unidentified soldier

The entire regiment somehow managed to vanish over the night of January 24, 3195, so completely that many overseas officials point to government secrecy. All records were erased - it was as if it never existed in the first place.

However, at several points they have been spotted fighting alongside Ghost_K, helping them out at several points, opening fire on anyone else who gets in their way and vanishing before an actual force can be assembled to retrieve them alive or dead.

Notable Battles

The 456th has served in several battles with distinction. Here are just a select few of them.

During that rather infamous battle, the 456th was delegated to holding the major access points to the Russian capital of Moscow until reinforcements could be transported, which they barely managed in face of a vastly superior in both numbers and technology opponent.
  • Russian Civil War
The 456th served often in the random outbursts of violence, to the point where they were often specifically requested by military commanders as reinforcements. Due to all their assistance, they learnt how to fight fire with fire, using the same tactics of the rebels against them.
I'm beginning to see a pattern here.

Pyotr Aleksandr

Pyotr's luck could not last forever. For years his regiment had outfought and outmanoeuvred the Urcron, but finally he was beaten. A conspiracy dating back decades had placed a disloyal officer in charge of his regiment, which was promptly almost completely exterminated, leaving only Pyotr, Fadey and Dema alive. Trying to find answers, he stumbled upon the key to the Urcron successes against the Russian Federation. However, the last three members were killed shutting the station down. Nevertheless, the operation was a great strategic success and responsible for the campaign turning right around on the Urcron. The 456th were formally dissolved afterwards.

Got one serve of "screw you". Please deliver to nearest Urcron, or possibly Pyotr

–Journal entry from an unidentified soldier

The weapons and armour of the 456th is slightly superior to that of normal infantry. The designs they use are approximately 10-20 years newer than that of the standard infantry.

Their weapons are of coil type, and considerably more durable than their foreign counterparts. The logic behind that being that the more durable it is, the less likely it is to be unrecoverable when the soldier holding it is shot.

The armour they wear is a highly durable carapace suit. The suit has some ceramic plating in it, which allows it to better withstand heat-based weapons.

The suit also comes with a helmet which, while optional, is frequently used and it is very rare to meet a veteran who doesn't wear one. The helmet is made along a design which attempts to ensure the wearer is protected from solid rounds and explosions. The ears of the helmets are muffled, to prevent deafness from large explosions, while they have a transmitter on the outside which transmit exterior sounds while ensuring they are not at a volume which could cause damage to the unfortunate soldier equipping it.
